In the 1980s the population of Iklin registered a sharp increase and consequently the community of Iklin was formed. In view of this, the Parish Priest of Lija, Fr. (today Mons.) Alfred Xuereb started offering pastoral services. And thus, the Centre for Catechism for children was established. A garage was eventually rented out so that holy mass could be celebrated there. On 16 June 2000 the first stone of the new Centre was blessed and laid by the Archbishop, Mons.
Ġużeppi Mercieca. On 19 March 2002, the Archbishop officially inaugurated the new Centre which now comprised a church, rooms for catechism lessons for children, a meeting hall, a youth centre, and a parish office. On 15 February 2003, Iklin was declared an autonomous parish.
