Msida parish church was built whilst under the religious guidance of Bishop Carmelo Scicluna who together with the main benefactor Mgr Francesco Falzon Debono contributed financially towards its building. Architect Andrea Grima was responsible for the plans, their execution, and all works involved to build the church.
The long awaited laying of the foundation stone took place on Sunday 4 April 1886. Works where finished by 1889 and the church was consecrated on 22 April 1894.
